Frequently Answered Questions
Why should I sealcoat my driveway?
-
Preservation and Protection: Your driveway is constantly exposed to harsh weather conditions, such as sunlight, rain, snow, and freezing temperatures. Over time, these elements can cause the asphalt to deteriorate, leading to cracks, potholes, and overall degradation. Sealcoating acts as a protective barrier, shielding your driveway from the element.
-
Extends Lifespan: Regular sealcoating significantly extends the lifespan of your driveway. It acts as a shield, preventing oxidation and reducing the rate of wear and tear. By sealing your driveway every few years, you can avoid costly repairs or premature replacement, saving you both time and money in the long term.
-
Enhances Curb Appeal: A freshly sealcoated driveway enhances the overall aesthetics of your property. It gives a smooth, jet-black appearance, restoring the original richness of the asphalt. This improvement in curb appeal not only adds value to your home but also creates a positive first impression for visitors and potential buyers.
-
Easy Maintenance: Sealcoating makes your driveway easier to maintain. The smooth, sealed surface prevents dirt, debris, and oil stains from penetrating the asphalt, making it easier to clean and maintain. Regular sweeping and occasional power washing can keep your driveway looking fresh and well-maintained for years to come.
Do you provide a warranty for your sealcoating services?
-
We do not provide any warranty.
How often should I have my driveway sealed?
-
It is recommended by experts like myself you have your driveway sealed every 2-3 years. That said, the main rule is to sealcoat your driveway once it is no longer jet-black and the cracks are not filled in.
How long does the sealcoating last?
-
Sealcoating lasts 2-3 years, but if there are few cracks and the conditions are right, it can last 4-5 years. This depends on the driveway's condition, if water puddles consistently, if water runs off the driveway, and the amount/weight of vehicles driving/parking on the asphalt.
How do you estimate driveways?
-
One of our associates will come out, quickly measure and assess the driveway, then leave an estimate in the mailbox. The evening after, I will reach out by text or email to let you know the estimate is complete and to answer any questions. The price is based on several factors, including distance from our headquarters, size of the driveway, condition of the asphalt, and how recently it has been sealed.
How long does it take for sealcoating to dry?
-
It is recommended no one drives on the driveway for 48 hours following sealcoating. That said, usually, you can walk on it after 24 hours. Furthermore, depending on the temperature and humidity, it can rain within an hour of completion without issue.
Does sealcoating make the surface slippery?
-
Yes, sealcoating usually makes the surface slicker. This can be an issue for driveways on an incline, especially during the winter when ice and snow can cause people to fall. To combat this, when we sealcoat driveways on an incline, we add additional sand to the sealer. This adds texture to the sealer and makes it less slippery.
Do you meet with customers during estimates?
-
We don’t usually meet with customers unless there is a specific issue to address. Normally, an associate will come out, assess the driveway, measure it, take note of any specific work to be done, and leave an estimate in the mailbox. After that, Alex follows up to discuss any questions or issues over the phone. That said, if there is anything specific to address, we can definitely accommodate in-person estimates.
Can you fix a depression in my driveway? A low area where water collects?
-
Unfortunately, we cannot fill minor depressions. We have tried before, and it had never worked. We can only fill real holes with defined sides and some depth. If you want a depression fixed, you need a paving company to cut out the asphalt and replace it. That said, please send a picture of the low area, and I can let you know what we can do. Thank you!
How do you fill the cracks in my driveway?
-
We use a cold-pour crack filler called Gator Pave, a thick/rubbery material, to fill larger cracks. We usually do this before sealcoating. This way, each crack is filled by Gator Pave and then covered again by the regular sealer. Gator Pave makes the cracks much less noticeable and will help prevent more cracks from forming in the winter. Smaller cracks are only filled with the sand in the regular sealer.
-
It is important to note that while we can fill cracks, we cannot make them disappear. They will appear much cleaner and the same color as the rest of the driveway, but you can still see them. The only way to make cracks disappear is by having an asphalt company repave the area.
Can you fill holes in my driveway?
-
We can patch holes that have defined edges and meaningful depth. We use Aquaphalt, a product by sealmaster, that does a great job of patching holes in driveways. The best part about Aquaphalt is that you can seal over it directly after putting it down. Sometimes we have to use regular coal patch that cannot be sealed over for 3 months.
